What is a Conversion Rate Calculator?
Conversion Rate Calculator is a tool that computes conversion rates and A/B test significance from raw visitor and conversion counts. How does a Conversion Rate Calculator work?
When you enter visitors and conversions for both variants, the tool computes each variant's conversion rate (conversions / visitors). The 95% confidence interval is computed via the Wilson score interval, which is more accurate than the naive normal approximation for small samples and rates near 0% or 100%.
Lift is computed as relative percent change: (rate_b - rate_a) / rate_a. The relative form (vs. absolute percentage points) is what marketers report because it scales meaningfully across different baseline rates.
The two-tailed z-test for proportions computes a z-statistic from the pooled standard error and converts it to a p-value via the standard normal CDF. The pooled standard error is the conservative form (assumes equal variance under the null); same approach used by Optimizely's stats engine and most academic textbooks.

Best Practices
Don't peek at p-values mid-test
Stopping a test the moment p drops below 0.05 inflates false-positive rate dramatically. Pre-decide the sample size; collect data; analyze once at the end. (Sequential testing platforms handle this differently.)
Use 95% confidence (p < 0.05) by default
Industry standard. Use 99% (p < 0.01) for high-stakes decisions like pricing changes. Don't accept lower than 90% unless you're explicitly running an exploratory test.
Watch for underpowered tests
Tests on fewer than ~1,000 visitors per variant struggle to detect anything below ~10% lift. The calculator's confidence interval shows your real margin; if the variants' intervals overlap heavily, more data is needed.
Report relative lift, not absolute
5% to 5.5% is a 0.5 percentage point absolute lift, but a 10% relative lift. Relative is what stakeholders care about and what scales across different baseline rates.
Run tests for at least one full business cycle
Day-of-week effects, monthly billing cycles, seasonal patterns all bias short tests. Run for 1-2 weeks minimum to capture typical traffic mix.
Pre-define your primary metric
Don't HARK (Hypothesizing After Results are Known). Decide upfront: 'we're optimizing for trial-signup rate'. If the variant moves something else, that's a future experiment, not a confirmed win.
Don't test more than 2-3 variables at once
Multivariate tests need exponentially more sample. Stick to 1 variable, 2 variants for most cases. Save multivariate for sites with massive traffic.
Re-test wins on different audiences
A win on US traffic may not replicate on EU or APAC. After a positive test, run a smaller follow-up on a different audience cohort to validate.

Stopping the test too early when p drops below 0.05
p-values fluctuate as data accumulates. Peeking and stopping when p drops can give 30%+ false-positive rate. Pre-commit to a sample size; analyze once.
Reporting absolute % point lift as relative %
5.0% to 5.5% is +0.5 absolute, +10% relative. Confusing the two is a classic mistake; the calculator labels both clearly.
Treating non-significant results as 'no effect'
Non-significant doesn't mean the variants are identical - it means you don't have enough data to tell them apart. Could be a real but small effect; could be noise.
Running multiple tests on the same audience
