QR code analytics
Track every scan of your QR codes — total and unique scans, over time, by country, city, device, and browser. Because U2L's QR codes are dynamic links, you can also change where a printed code points without reprinting it.
Can you actually track a QR code?
Yes — but only if the code is dynamic. The trick is that a trackable QR doesn't point straight at your destination; it points at a short link that redirects through U2L. That redirect is the moment a scan gets recorded, which is also why you can change the destination later. So "trackable" and "editable" come from the same thing: the short link behind the code. A useful side effect is that a scan is measured exactly like a click, so your printed codes and your online links share one analytics dashboard.
Static vs. dynamic QR codes
This is the single most important thing to get right before you print anything.
| Static QR | Dynamic QR | |
|---|---|---|
| Records scans | No | Yes — every scan |
| Editable after printing | No | Yes — swap the destination |
| Destination lives | Baked into the pattern | Behind a short link |
| Plan | Available | Paid feature |
If you want scan analytics, you want a dynamic QR. A static code can't report anything once it's on paper.
What every scan tells you
The same dimensions U2L tracks for link clicks, applied to your printed codes.
Total & unique scans
Raw scan volume and how many distinct people scanned, so repeat scans don't inflate your numbers.
Scans over time
See scan activity by day and hour to spot when a poster or campaign actually gets attention.
Country & city
Where scans come from, derived from IP — country and city level, not a GPS pin.
Device, OS & browser
What people scan with — iPhone or Android, which OS and browser handled the open.
Location is derived from IP at the country and city level — useful for comparing regions, but not a precise GPS pin.
Edit the destination without reprinting
A dynamic QR separates the code from its destination, which changes how you can use print. Fix a typo'd link after the posters are up, rotate a code from a teaser to the live offer on launch day, or repoint last season's packaging at this season's page — all without touching the printed code. The scans keep accruing to the same QR, so you never lose the history when you change where it goes. This pairs naturally with dynamic QR codes and QR codes with your logo.
Where QR analytics earn their keep
Posters & signage
Measure which placement or location drives the most scans and double down on it.
Packaging & print
Put a code on a box or flyer and see real engagement instead of guessing.
Retail & events
Compare scan rates across stores, booths, or cities to learn what works.
Direct mail
Track response to a mailer by the scans its QR code generates over time.
QR code analytics FAQ
Can you track QR code scans?+
Yes, if the QR is dynamic. A dynamic QR encodes a short link that redirects through U2L, and that redirect is what records every scan. A plain static QR has no server in the loop, so it can't be tracked.
What's the difference between static and dynamic QR for tracking?+
A static QR bakes the destination into the pattern — once printed it can't be changed or measured. A dynamic QR points at a short link, so every scan is recorded and you can change the destination later without reprinting. Trackable and editable are the same capability, and both come from the dynamic short-link layer.
What data do QR code analytics show?+
Total and unique scans, scans over time, and breakdowns by country and city, device, OS, browser, and referrer — the same dimensions U2L uses for link clicks.
Can I change a QR code's destination after printing?+
Yes, with a dynamic QR. Edit the target URL anytime and every already-printed code points to the new destination — no reprint, and the scan history stays with it.
Are QR scans the same as link clicks?+
Effectively yes. A scan is recorded like a click on the underlying short link, using the same analytics model, so your print and digital measurement live in one dashboard.
Can I see where my QR code is scanned?+
Yes, by country and city, derived from the scanner's IP address. It is not GPS-precise location — it's the same IP-based geo used for link clicks.
Do I need a special app to track scans?+
No. A phone's built-in camera opens the link, and U2L's redirect logs the scan automatically. Nothing to install for you or the person scanning.
Is dynamic QR free?+
Dynamic QR is a paid feature. You can generate static QR codes, but only dynamic codes are trackable and editable. See the pricing page for what each plan includes.
Does adding color or a logo affect tracking?+
No. QR styling — color, logo, and pattern — changes how the code looks, not how it's tracked. A styled dynamic QR records scans exactly like a plain one.
Can I track several QR codes or campaigns separately?+
Yes. Each QR is its own link with independent scan analytics, so you can compare posters, placements, or campaigns side by side.
Make your QR codes measurable
Create a dynamic QR code, track every scan, and change where it points whenever you need to.
