Quick Answer

A YouTube subscribe link is your channel URL with ?sub_confirmation=1 added, such as https://www.youtube.com/@yourhandle?sub_confirmation=1. It opens your channel with a "Confirm channel subscription" dialog, so viewers subscribe with one more click. Paste your channel link, @handle or channel ID above to build it, then copy it or create a short link and QR code.

Quick Facts

  • The subscribe parameter is sub_confirmation=1, added after a ? to your channel URL. It works with /@handle, /channel/UC..., /c/Name and /user/Name URLs.
  • In a desktop browser the link opens your channel with a "Confirm channel subscription" dialog asking "Are you sure you want to subscribe to {channel}?" with Cancel and Subscribe buttons.
  • The viewer still decides: nobody is subscribed until they click Subscribe, and subscribing requires being signed in to YouTube.
  • A video, Shorts, playlist or youtu.be link does not identify a channel on its own, so the generator asks for your channel link or @handle instead.
  • Your handle is also your channel URL (youtube.com/@handle). Handles are 3-30 characters for most scripts and are not case-sensitive.
  • A channel ID starts with UC. The channel owner can see it in YouTube under Settings, then Advanced settings.
  • Optional: turn the subscribe link into a free short link with a QR code (PNG or SVG). No signup needed.

How to make a YouTube subscribe link

Paste your channel, copy the link. An optional short link and QR code take one more click.

  1. 1

Copy your channel link or @handle

Open your channel on YouTube and copy the address from the browser bar (for example youtube.com/@yourhandle), or just note your @handle. A channel ID (UC followed by 22 characters) and older /c/ or /user/ links work too.

  2. 2

    Paste it into the generator

The subscribe link appears as soon as the input is recognized. Links from m.youtube.com, without www or without https are fine, and channel subpages such as /videos are ignored. If you paste a video, Shorts, playlist or youtu.be link, you will be asked for the channel link or @handle instead.

  3. 3

Copy or test the subscribe link

Click Copy link to grab the URL, or Test link to open it in a new tab and see the subscribe prompt your viewers will get.

What is a YouTube Subscribe Link Generator?

YouTube Subscribe Link Generator is a free tool that adds the sub_confirmation=1 parameter to your YouTube channel URL, producing a link that opens your channel with a subscribe confirmation dialog. Paste your channel link, @handle or channel ID and you get a clean https://www.youtube.com subscribe link ready for video descriptions, bios, emails and print.

A normal channel link lands viewers on your channel page, where they still have to notice the Subscribe button. A subscribe link puts the question in front of them the moment the page opens: a "Confirm channel subscription" dialog with Cancel and Subscribe. It does not subscribe anyone on its own; it removes the step of finding the button. It is a URL convention rather than a setting in YouTube Studio, which is why you build it by adding the parameter yourself or with a generator.

YouTube channels can be addressed several ways. Every channel has a channel ID that starts with UC (youtube.com/channel/UC...), and every channel can have a handle, which YouTube also uses as the channel URL (youtube.com/@handle). Older channels may also have a custom URL (youtube.com/c/Name) or a legacy username URL (youtube.com/user/Name), and YouTube says both continue to work. The generator keeps whichever form you give it, so the subscribe link matches the address you already share.

Where the link will live matters. For a description or bio you can edit any time, the @handle form is readable and familiar. For printed QR codes and anything you cannot update later, the channel ID form is the safer choice, because a handle can be changed and YouTube notes that an old handle URL only keeps working for 14 days after a change. For print, spoken mentions and character-limited bios, the generator can also wrap the subscribe link in a U2L AI short link with a QR code.

How does a YouTube Subscribe Link Generator work?

The generator parses your input in the browser. It accepts a bare @handle (or a handle without the @), a bare channel ID (UC followed by 22 letters, digits, hyphens or underscores), and channel URLs on youtube.com, www.youtube.com or m.youtube.com, with or without https://. From a URL it reads the first path segment: /@handle, /channel/ followed by a channel ID, /c/Name or /user/Name. Anything after that, such as a /videos or /shorts tab, and any query string such as a ?si= share parameter, is dropped. Handles with non-Latin characters are percent-encoded so the result stays a valid URL.

The output is always the canonical https://www.youtube.com address in the same form you provided, followed by ?sub_confirmation=1: for example https://www.youtube.com/@yourhandle?sub_confirmation=1 or https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC...?sub_confirmation=1. Video links are rejected on purpose. A watch, Shorts, live, embed or playlist URL, or a youtu.be link, contains a video or playlist ID rather than a channel, and finding the channel behind it would take a YouTube API lookup, which this tool does not make.

When someone opens the link, YouTube loads your channel and reads the sub_confirmation=1 parameter. In a desktop browser it shows a dialog titled "Confirm channel subscription" that asks "Are you sure you want to subscribe to" your channel, with Cancel and Subscribe buttons; this appears for signed-out visitors too. Subscribing itself requires a signed-in YouTube account, so a signed-out viewer has to sign in to finish. On phones, youtube.com links may open in the browser or the YouTube app depending on the device and its settings, so test the link on the phones your audience uses.

The 'Create short link + QR code' step is the only part that uses the network. It sends the subscribe URL to U2L AI, which creates a free short link without signup; the short domain (u2l.ai or u.gy) is picked automatically based on the destination. The short link redirects to your subscribe link. The QR code encodes the short link rather than the long YouTube URL, so a scan and a tap follow the same redirect, and the simpler data makes a cleaner code. You can download the QR code as PNG or SVG.

Use Cases

How marketers, businesses, and developers use youtube subscribe link generator.

Video descriptions

Put the subscribe link near the top of each description, where viewers see it before tapping 'more'. A line such as 'New tutorials every Tuesday: subscribe here' gives a reason, not just a request.

Pinned comments

Pin a comment with the subscribe link under a video that is getting traffic. Viewers who scroll to the comments are often the most engaged, and a pinned comment stays at the top.

Community posts

Share the link in a post when you announce a series, a schedule change or a milestone, so people who see the post in their feed can subscribe without first opening your channel.

Link-in-bio on other platforms

Use the subscribe link, or its short version, in your Instagram, TikTok or X bio and on your link-in-bio page. Followers arriving from another app get the subscribe prompt straight away.

Email signatures and newsletters

Add a 'Subscribe on YouTube' line to your email signature and newsletter footer. Turn it into a named link with the U2L AI Hyperlink Generator so the long URL stays hidden behind readable text.

Website and blog buttons

Point your site's YouTube icon or 'Subscribe' button at the subscribe link instead of the plain channel URL, so the click ends in a subscribe prompt rather than a channel page.

Printed QR codes

Put the QR code on business cards, posters, merch tags, packaging and event slides. Build it from a channel ID link if the print run will outlive a possible handle change.

Podcasts and live streams

A short link is easy to read aloud in a podcast or show on screen during a stream. Listeners type a few characters and land on the subscribe prompt.

Collaborations and guest appearances

Give collaborators your subscribe link to include in their descriptions or show notes, so their audience can subscribe to you in one step after the video.

Discord, Telegram and group chats

Share the link in your community server or channel when a new upload goes live. Members who are not yet subscribed see the prompt as soon as they open it.

YouTube Subscribe Link Generator vs Plain Channel URL

A plain channel URL and a subscribe link open the same channel. The difference is what the viewer sees first: the plain URL shows your channel page, while the subscribe link shows a "Confirm channel subscription" dialog on top of it. Use the plain URL when the goal is browsing, such as 'watch the full playlist', and the subscribe link when the goal is the subscription itself.

You can add ?sub_confirmation=1 by hand, but the details trip people up: links copied from the app often carry a ?si= share parameter, so adding a second ? breaks the parameter; video links do not work at all; and m.youtube.com or /videos tab URLs look untidy in print. The generator cleans all of that and returns one canonical https://www.youtube.com link.

YouTube Subscribe Link Generator vs End Screen Subscribe Element

YouTube's end screens include a Subscribe element, and it is the right tool inside your own videos. YouTube Help sets the limits: up to four end screen elements on standard 16:9 videos, shown in the last 5-20 seconds, only on videos at least 25 seconds long, not on videos set as made for kids, and viewers can hide them.

A subscribe link covers everything an end screen cannot reach: descriptions, pinned comments, community posts, other platforms, email, your website and printed QR codes. The two work together. Keep the end screen element on your videos and use the subscribe link everywhere else.

Best Practices

Ask after you have delivered value

Place the link where viewers have just been helped or entertained: at the end of a tutorial description, after a useful answer in a pinned comment, or under a highlight clip. A request that follows value feels earned.

Say what subscribers get

'Subscribe for a new recipe every Friday' gives a reason to click. A bare 'subscribe' line is easy to ignore.

Use the channel ID form for print

YouTube lets you change your handle, and the old handle URL only keeps working for 14 days after a change. For QR codes on packaging, posters and business cards, build the link from your channel ID so it keeps working.

Test the link signed in and signed out

Open it in a normal window and a private window, on desktop and on your phone. Confirm it shows your channel's name in the dialog before you publish or print it.

Use a short link and QR code offline

Long YouTube URLs are hard to type and make dense QR codes. Create the short link and QR code in the generator, and download the QR as SVG for sharp print at any size.

Create a separate short link per placement

With a free U2L AI account, click analytics show how many people opened each link. Separate short links for your bio, newsletter and flyers tell you which placement sends the most people to the prompt.

Keep YouTube's own subscribe features too

The subscribe link complements, not replaces, the Subscribe element in end screens. Use native elements inside videos and the link everywhere else.

Never trade rewards for subscriptions

YouTube's fake engagement policy allows you to encourage viewers to subscribe, but prohibits sub4sub offers and incentives in exchange for subscriptions. Ask plainly and let the content do the convincing.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Using a video link instead of the channel link

A watch, Shorts or youtu.be URL points to a video, not a channel, so adding sub_confirmation=1 to it does nothing useful. The generator rejects these and asks for your channel link or @handle.

Adding a second question mark

Links shared from the YouTube app often end in ?si=... If you append ?sub_confirmation=1 to that, the second ? becomes part of the si value and the parameter is ignored. The generator drops existing query strings and adds the parameter cleanly.

Printing a handle link, then changing the handle

An old handle URL stops working 14 days after a change and the handle can then be claimed by someone else. Printed codes built on the old handle would point to the wrong place. Use the channel ID form for anything you cannot reprint easily.

Offering rewards or sub4sub

Giveaways that require a subscription, or 'I'll subscribe back' deals, go against YouTube's fake engagement policy and can lead to strikes. The link should make subscribing easier, not pay for it.

Posting the link in other channels' comments

Dropping your subscribe link under other creators' videos annoys their viewers and is the kind of repetitive posting YouTube's spam policies target. Share it in your own spaces and in collaborations where the other creator agrees.

Building the link for the wrong channel

If you manage more than one channel, Settings, then Advanced settings shows the IDs for the channel you are currently using. Switch to the right channel first, then click Test link and check the channel name in the dialog.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a YouTube subscribe link?

It is your channel URL with ?sub_confirmation=1 at the end, for example https://www.youtube.com/@yourhandle?sub_confirmation=1. Opening it shows your channel with a "Confirm channel subscription" dialog, so the viewer can subscribe with one click instead of looking for the Subscribe button.

How do I make a YouTube subscribe link?

Paste your channel link, @handle or channel ID into the generator above and copy the result. To do it by hand, take your channel URL without any other query string and add ?sub_confirmation=1 to the end.

What does sub_confirmation=1 do?

It tells YouTube to open the channel page with a subscribe confirmation dialog. In a desktop browser the dialog is titled "Confirm channel subscription", asks whether you want to subscribe to the channel, and offers Cancel and Subscribe buttons.

Does the link subscribe people automatically?

No. The viewer has to click Subscribe in the dialog, and they need to be signed in to YouTube to complete it. The link only brings the choice to the front of the page.

Does a subscribe link work with an @handle?

Yes. youtube.com/@handle?sub_confirmation=1 shows the same confirmation dialog as the channel ID form. The generator keeps the @handle form when you paste a handle or a handle URL.

Should I use my handle or my channel ID?

Use the handle for places you can edit, such as descriptions and bios, because it is readable. Use the channel ID for printed QR codes and anything permanent: YouTube lets you change your handle, and the old handle URL only works for 14 days after a change.

How do I find my YouTube channel ID?

Sign in to YouTube, select your profile picture, open Settings, then Advanced settings. Your channel's user ID and channel ID are shown there. YouTube notes that you must be signed in as the channel's primary owner to see this.

How do I find my YouTube handle?

Your handle is part of your channel URL (youtube.com/@yourhandle) and appears on your channel page. In YouTube Studio you can see and change it under Customization, then Profile.

Why can't I use a video or Shorts link?

A video, Shorts, playlist or youtu.be link identifies a video or playlist, not a channel. Working out the channel behind it needs a YouTube API lookup, which this tool does not do. Open the video, click the channel name, and copy that URL or the @handle instead.

Does the subscribe link work on mobile?

The link opens your channel with the subscribe prompt. On phones, youtube.com links may open in the browser or in the YouTube app depending on the device and its settings, so test on the phones your audience uses. Either way, viewers land on your channel, where subscribing is one tap away.

What happens if the viewer is not signed in?

The confirmation dialog still appears in a desktop browser. Subscribing requires a signed-in YouTube account, so a signed-out viewer has to sign in to finish.

Can I use the subscribe link in end screens or cards?

Inside your videos, use YouTube's built-in options: end screens have a Subscribe element (up to four elements, in the last 5-20 seconds), and cards (up to five per video) include a channel card type. Links to external websites in end screens and cards are limited to YouTube Partner Program members. The subscribe link is for everywhere else.

Is using a subscribe link allowed by YouTube?

YouTube's fake engagement policy explicitly allows encouraging viewers to subscribe. What it prohibits is artificial engagement, such as sub4sub arrangements or rewards in exchange for subscriptions. A subscribe link still requires the viewer's own click.

Why turn the subscribe link into a short link?

The full URL is long and hard to read aloud, type or print. A short link is compact, works in any bio or caption, and makes a simpler QR code. Short links are free and need no signup; a free U2L AI account adds click analytics and link management.

How do I make a QR code for my YouTube channel?

Generate your subscribe link, then click 'Create short link + QR code'. The QR code encodes the short link, which redirects to your subscribe link. Download it as PNG for screens or SVG for print.

Do old /c/ and /user/ channel URLs still work?

Yes. YouTube says existing custom URLs (/c/Name) continue to work and legacy username URLs (/user/Name) can still be used to send viewers to your channel. The generator accepts both and keeps the form you paste.

Which short domain will my link use?

U2L AI picks the short domain (u2l.ai or u.gy) automatically based on the destination, so it cannot be chosen in advance. Custom domains are available on paid plans.

Does this tool store my channel link?

Building the subscribe link happens entirely in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere. Only if you click 'Create short link + QR code' is the subscribe URL sent to U2L AI to create the short link.

Key Terms

sub_confirmation parameter
The query parameter sub_confirmation=1 added to a YouTube channel URL. It makes the channel page open with a subscribe confirmation dialog.
YouTube handle
A unique @name for a channel that also serves as its URL (youtube.com/@name). Handles are not case-sensitive and can be changed.
Channel ID
A channel's unique identifier, starting with UC, used in URLs of the form youtube.com/channel/UC.... It is visible to the owner under Settings, then Advanced settings.
Custom URL and legacy username URL
Older channel address formats, youtube.com/c/Name and youtube.com/user/Name. YouTube says existing ones continue to work.
Query string
The part of a URL after the ?, made of name=value pairs joined by &. Only the first ? starts the query string; a second ? is read as part of a value, which is why ?sub_confirmation=1 cannot simply be appended to a link that already has a query string.
End screen
YouTube's clickable overlay in the last 5-20 seconds of a video, with up to four elements such as Subscribe, a video or playlist, or another channel.
Short link
A compact URL that redirects to a longer one. A U2L AI short link to your subscribe URL is easier to share, read aloud and encode in a QR code.
